Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and PunkBuster

In case you got trouble being kicked by PunkBuster when playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 try the following:

Make sure you have fully uninstalled the BETA version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
If you were using PBSetup on the BETA, you’ll have to remove it from the list of games and re-add the retail version. This is because the game’s path changed.
Run PBSetup and make sure it points to the correct folder.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users may want to install the PunkBuster service files before installing BFBC2 using pbsvc.exe.
Make sure you are running the most recent version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

PBSetup-Hilfe geupdatet

Die PBSetup-Hilfe wurde um einen Punkt für 64bit Serverinstallationen erweitert. Es geht darum, welche Version von PBSetup zu wählen ist, 32bit oder 64bit.

Windows 7 and PunkBuster

Windows 7 has been released by Microsoft and is fully compatible with PunkBuster by Even Balance, Inc.

Most PB kicks are due to outdated PunkBuster Clients after a reinstall or missing PB Services.

To conquer this:

Download pbsvc.exe and install the PB Services.
Then get PBSetup, add the game you want to run with PB enabled, and press the “Check for updates” button.

You should be able to play in most cases then. If not, contact Even Balance support via their Trouble Ticket System.

Many Mac users wonder where the buttons to update PunkBuster are in PBSetup on a Mac. PBSetup follows the Mac standard and has all options in the menu on top of the screen. No buttons are available in the Mac edition of PBSetup (see the screenshot).

Probleme pbsetup.run unter Linux zu starten?

Einige Benutzer von Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) haben Probleme den PunkBuster-Updater pbsetup.run zu starten. Es gibt eine einfache Lösung:
Einfach upx -d pbsetup.run im Terminal im PBSetup-Ordner eintippen und danach PBSetup wie gewohnt starten.

Vorher muss man evtl. upx per apt-get installieren:
apt-get install upx-ulc
